Rhinoplasty is the name given to surgery performed to re-shape the nose and to achieve a more compatible appearance with the face from an aesthetic point of view.

With aesthetic nose surgery, the external appearance of your face becomes beautiful, your nose becomes more compatible with your face. If you also have trouble breathing, this problem is eliminated at the same time(septorhinoplasty).

The nose is an organ located right in the middle of our face. In the aesthetic units that make up our face, a deformity or incompatibility in the eyebrows, eyelids, temple, chin, lip and nose, it negatively affects the  facial beauty. This is exactly where rhinoplasty  steps in to eliminate the formal and functional problems in the nose by performing its duty.

Rhinoplasty does not change a person's facial expression. Such as ; the bone protrution on the nose causes hard and sharp looks, even the eyes appear sunken and distant, tired and leads to the pensive expression. A crooked nose, whether angled to the right or to the left,  causes the looks to appear cross eyed. It's the reflection of the nasal disorders that causes us to look like this.  This causes a different perception of our facial expression. Although the experience, practice, skills and knowledge of the surgeon are among the factors that increase success in an aesthetic nose surgery, some factors belonging to the patient may increase or decrease the probability of success of the surgery. For example, if the nose skin is oily and has a thick skin or loss of elasticity, or has an overly broad nasal tip(bullous), or having undergone a previously unsuccesfull  operation or if there is an extreme disproportion between the nose and the face, are some of the factors  affecting the surgery negatively.  

Disorders That Can Be Corrected By Aesthetic Nose Surgery?

- Bone protrusion on the top of the nose (hump)

- Drooping, hook-shaped image of the tip of the nose

- Large or wide nose tip  

- Curvature of the nose from right to left

- The nose being bigger or smaller than it is.

- The nose root being wide, where the eyeglass saddle sits

Surgical Procedure

Rhinoplasty is basically done with two methods. Closed technique and open technique. Both surgeries can be performed safely in women from  age of 17 to 18 years of age in men.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY SURGERY;  there is no incision on the outside of the nose, so there is no visible scar. The incisions are made from the inside of the nose and the skin of the nose is not lifted upwards. No damage is done to the vessels at the tip of the nose .  This prevents tissue death (necrosis) that may occur at the tip of the nose. The duration of surgery is as short as 1-1.5 hours. After the surgery, no swelling or bruising will occur or it will pass within a day or two. Recovery process is short and occurs in a short time. The nose will take its final shape in a short time. The surgeon performing closed rhinoplasty, which is a difficult surgical technique, needs to have an excellent experience, talent and high knowledge. This mothod can easily  be applied in all shapes of disorders.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY SURGERY;  an incision is made outside the structure that divides the nostrils, called the columella. There is a high probability of a visible scar that can be seen externally. This scar may fade over time or resulting in poor wound healing such as keloids, and may adversely affect the person's psychosocial structure. If a tissue death (necrosis)  develops at the tip of the nose, partial loss may occur in the nose. The duration of the surgery is longer (3-4 hours) the skin of the nose is lifted up and swelling and bruising usually occurs , it will take longer to pass. Recovery and nose sitting process takes longer.

The plastic surgeon may choose or adopt any technique, considering their knowledge, ability, experience, practice and the problems with the nose.

Surgery Planning

Planning begins with your plastic surgeon's examination. Is your nose big or small? Is there a bone protrusion on the top of your nose? Is your nose tip low ? Is your nose skin thin or thick or oily? any curvature in your nose? Are you having trouble breathing? All such elements are reviewed. What needs to be corrected and the things to be done is passed on to you. The persons thoughts and the the problems they want to be corrected and dealt with ara learned. Talking and planning are done according to the facts that can be done for the person, not dreams. It would not be a realistic approach to come up with photos of other people in hand and say I want this nose. Because the characteristics of that person and yours will not be the same and the result will upset you.

Surgical Process

Aesthetic nose surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia. It should be performed in a hospital environment under full sterile conditions. The surgery takes an average of 1-1. 5 hours. If it is necessary a tampon can be inserted into your nose after surgery, that is taken out within 2-3 days. Removing tampons is not a painful procedure as generally thought, and there will be splint on the top of the nose which will be safely removed by us on the 7the day. There is usually no pain after the surgery. ice can be applied on the first day. The duration of the hospital stay is one day.

Things To watch Our For After The Surgery?

Usually, there is no swelling or  bruising around your eyes, in case this occurs , with ice application it will pass in a day or two. No extra medication is needed. The doctor will ask you not to smoke, not to turn left or right in bed , not to lean forward, to protect the nose against impacts.  The person is advised to take the medication regularly. At the end of the 7th day, the person can go back to work.

The nose will have some swelling in the first weeks. Don’t let this worry you. Because the swelling will decrease rapidly every day , and it will become normal within 2 months. During this two-months, nose massage should be done, not to use glasses and protect the nose against any impacts. The lenses can be worn after 10 days and after 3 -4 weeks sport activities can be started again.  It will take approximately 6-12 months for the nose to take its final shape ( sitting process).
